The app won't up Nanit camera without an Insights plan — seems like deceptive marketing?

Nanit sells its products with a claim that you don't need a subscription to use them, here:

However, when you try to finish setting up your camera, you get the message "finalize the setup process by activating your camera," which takes you to a website to choose a paid subscription. As far as I can tell there is no way to continue the process without giving Nanit your credit card.
