Split sleep

Advice welcome please!

For the past month my 18 month old has started waking for 1-2 hours in the night. He is not upset and does not cry. He is restless and awake. He goes to bed at 7pm and wakes between 6:15-7am. He naps approx 12-1:30. At night he falls asleep independently with his dummy and blanket. When we are out for the day and he naps in the car (unusually only 40m) he will have a more restful night. Could it be too much day sleep causing the split night? Thanks I’m advance for any ideas.

  • Sounds like 1.5 hours is a reasonable amount for your babies age but wonder if too much awake time before bed. My 18 month old takes a similar nap and we target 6:30 bedtime (4-5 hours from the end of nap). If an earlier bedtime could work for your family consider trying to put baby down for bedtime a little earlier for a few days and see if it helps. I really like taking cara babies for sleep advice. Rules of thumb for our babies age are:

Goal Amount of Daytime Sleep: 2-3 hours

    Average Number of Naps: 1

    Wake Windows: 4-6

Bedtime: 6:30-8:00pm (4-5 hours from end of nap)
