Starting daycare - nap routine changes

Hello all,

Just wondering if anyone has any advice relating to changing naptimes due to starting daycare.

Our son is turning one in a few days and has just started at daycare. He usually naps twice a day from around 9:30-11am and then from 3-4pm. The daycare usually only has one naptime, around 1pm.

Should we continue to stick to the old schedule at home and let him adjust to the new one at daycare? Or should we try to keep things consistent every day?

Ugh! So tricky! Rest assured that your little one will be likely ready to transition to one nap fairly soon anyhow, so the transition to one nap at daycare should be fine for him once he gets used to it. You might want to do two naps at home and one nap at daycare for the first few weeks but he will likely be able to transition to one nap at home fairly soon too. One thing we suggest is making sure he has lunch before he goes down for his nap which can help lengthen that one nap. You might find hes ready for a nap much earlier than 1pm at home, he might be ready for a nap at 11.30 or 12 noon. If you can try and get that lunch in before then, even if the nap is early, it will help make that nap a bit longer so that he is then able to get through the afternoon happily!
